A nun convent in Ghana likely to soon to be closed soon since Ghanaian women have refused to become nuns for the past 18 years it has been operational.
The Philippines nuns who opened the convent with hopes of filling their ranks have aged and their superiors have threated to close the convent if they don’t get any members in five years. Only one Ghanaian woman tried to join the Carmelite nuns but ran away. “Leaving my family, my friends behind to go and live such a contemplative life? I don’t think I could do it,” said a local Ghanaian woman to DW. “I would not be allowed to even watch television. God!”
